Thursday, October 19, 2017

The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has announced its inaugural Farnam Horse of the Month

September, 2017

Name of Horse (Barn & Show Name): Thor; Bueno Sixty Six (Donated by the Gibbs Family)

Discipline: Began as a Reining horse before moving to Horsemanship

Breed, Age, & Color: Quarterhorse, 14, Bay

Highlighted Accomplishments:

Thor was a team favorite in both Reining and Horsemanship. During his career, he went 9-3 with five MOPs and had an average Horsemanship MOP score of 75.

He has the best personality and a heart of gold. When Coach Tana’s twin boys wanted to ride, Thor was always the chosen horse. He is a horse you can trust 100% of the time and would take care of the boys and go wherever they steered him.

It was this personality and trustworthiness that led the team to use him as the horse Tacey would come out and practice on with her Aggie teammates. Tacey Raulerson is 17 years old and has been riding with team since she was 13. She has two rare forms of cancer called Retinoblastoma and Neuroblastoma which caused her to lose her eye sight at the age of six. The student-athletes rotate helping with Tacey when she is out at the barn, once she is on top of Thor the girls talk her through where she is in the arena. Tacey however, does all the cueing and guiding of Thor by herself and he listens attentively, taking care of her every step of the way.

After 6 years with the team, we decided it was time to retire him and we knew exactly where he belonged. Thor is definitely a once in a lifetime horse.
