NM State Equestrian Takes Down TCU
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State equestrian team squared off against the TCU Horned Frogs at home on Friday. The team came out strong early on and ended up taking down the Horned Frogs, 9-7.
The day began with the most dominant performance of the day by the Aggies, in equitation on the flat. This event saw the Aggies win with a 4-0 sweep as Madison Brayman, Grace McMurry, Karianna Knezevich and Remington Wilkie each earned a point for the squad. Brayman also took home Most Valuable Player honors after the event.
Next up in equitation over fences, NM State split the event, 2-2, with TCU. Points for the Aggies were earned by Madison Brayman and Samantha Perlman. Brayman took home her second MVP honors in as many events halfway through the day.
In horsemanship, the team again split the event with the opponent as the Aggie points were awarded to Alyssa Luckhardt and Haylee Schoonover. The final event, reining, was the only one of the day which NM State dropped as they fell 3-1 to the Horned Frogs. The final point of the day was earned by Hallie Padilla as her final score ended up giving NM State a 9-7 victory.
The win for the team moves them to 5-5 on the year. Head coach Robin Walters and the Aggies will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow as they face off against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at 1 p.m. MT at the NM State Equestrian Center.
