No. 8 TCU opened its season with a 10-9 victory over No. 9 SMU at Sleepy P Ranch Thursday.

“I am very proud of our whole team today,” said TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield. “We had solid rides on both sides of the team, but were down going into Reining. Our Reiners knew they had to win four of the final five points to take the match and they did it with confidence. We are so proud and looking forward to preparing for South Carolina next week.”

In Horsemanship, freshman Jenna Jacobs scored her first TCU point and helped the Purple and White secure a 3-2 victory over SMU. Jacobs dropped Hannah McCain, 72-71, while Megan McMullen totaled a 73.5-71 decision over SMU’s Jaclyn White to post her first MOP ride of the young season. Senior Erin Gillette rounded out the TCU notables, dropping Ashley Mauney, 74-73.5.

In Reining, TCU jumped all over SMU taking four consecutive points to defeat the Mustangs, 4-1. Shelby St. Hilaire led the way, grabbing an MOP en route to a 73-72.5 victory over White. Returning All-American Chantz Stewart was just as dominate, upending Olivia Pakula, 65-64. Junior Brooke Boyle was also victorious, downing Kelsey Karanges and junior Carley Montemuro took the final point over SMU’s Casey Bibbs, 69-64.

On the Hunt Seat side, SMU stormed out to a 3-1 lead in Equitation over Fences. Junior Molly Peddicord scored the lone point for TCU in the discipline with an 89-88 win over Alexis Graves.
